Myelodysplastic Syndromes (MDS)

Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) are a rare group of disorders in which the body no longer makes enough healthy blood cells. You might sometimes hear it called “bone marrow failure disorder.” MDS is considered to be a type of cancer.

MDS can cause low red blood cell count (anemia), low white blood cell count (neutropenia), and/or low platelet count (thrombocytopenia).

Disease Information Sites

I was not able to find any good information sites about MDS in cats to share. I did find this human-focused foundation and their website has a lot of information that will be helpful in understanding this disorder.

Support Groups

I do not know of any MDS-specific support groups, but there is a general Yahoo group for feline cancer you can join.

Cats with Multiple Medical Conditions is a very good support group on Facebook that may be able to help.

Feline (Cat) Cancer is another good Facebook group you could try.

For Fido, with love and dedication.

Fido was a wonderful, funny, loving kitty, who is missed by her mom Christy, and her sister Luna.
